FAQs

Who funds the grants and scholarship opportunities offered by The Office of Matthew E. Rives?

All grants and scholarships are funded by an annual or single endowment made exclusively by Matthew E. Rives.

What are the qualifications to receive a grant?

In order to receive a grant from The Office of Matthew E. Rives the receiving entity must be invited to apply, be a non-profit organization, and is required to meet a series of guidelines especially as they relate to our code of conduct, treatment of all involved parties, history of the organization, and as it relates to museums and libraries a clear chain of provenance for items held in their collections.

What are the requirements to receive a scholarship?

The Office of Matthew E. Rives serves as the host for The Terry Scholarship For Medical Students which provides support to students who are entering their first year of medical college. Applications are accepted throughout the calendar year and are open to students that have been accepted to any accredited medical college in the United States with the exception of Texas A&M University.

Why is the scholarship not available at Texas A&M University

In 2023 Mr. Rives attempted to establish a scholarship fund at Texas A&M University for medical students. Despite Texas A&M initially supporting the donation they abruptly ended the professional relationship allegedly due to Mr. Rives and his family not being a household name. Mr. Rives then established the scholarship with an initial endowment of $15,000,000.00 which was originally reserved for Texas A&M and opened it to all accredited medical colleges except Texas A&M citing that they clearly did not want the donation.

What other purposes does The Office of Matthew E. Rives serve?

In addition to providing grants and scholarship opportunities throughout the United States The Office of Matthew E. Rives also maintains multiple internal departments that serve Mr. Rives directly such as his security detail, domestic staff, legal department, and other support teams that help Mr. Rives in his personal life. These departments are funded by Mr. Rives using personal funds and do not impact or influence the grants and scholarship opportunities provided by this private foundation.
